b' Club Spotlight TLCCVAfter the course was cancelled inMay due to inclement weather- pour-ing rain and in September due to the Chainsaw Course -COVID, it was rescheduled toDecember. Trim and cut felled treesArrived at Yarck on Friday afternoonwith all the necessary safety gear,chainsaw and all the necessities on & maintain chainsawsboard, I set up the swag on theplatform ready for an early startSaturday. Had a few refreshing alesand discussed all the current worldlyissues around the fire in the Hilton,then the instructors advised theywanted to R/V all the theorycomponent at 7:30pm - had better getthe thinking cap on! Finished theoryat 10.00pm, already for the practicalcomponent at 8:30am sharp.The morning started early at 6:00amwith the birds and breaky, the 11original participants had reduced to 7due to other commitments, then asudden illness overnight, it wasreduced to 5. Set up with all our equipment next tothe new MPB, where there was the4WD maintenance course being heldChainsaws dismantled and reassem-bled, chains sharpened, all fuelled upbefore lunch and ready to go!This is the fun part putting all thetheory into practice. With theinstructors eagle eye and directionwe completed our risk assessments,vertical cuts, horizontal cuts, crosscutting, and learnt how compressionand tension apply in the practicalsense. Then back into it 8:00am on theSunday after a good nights sleep,more practice with chainsaws anddifferent fallen trees.At the end of the day, chainsawsstripped down, cleaned, and readyfor the next cut, all the theorycompleted, and feedback given bythe instructors, all competent to thetasks given.
