Four Wheel Drive Victoria have been made aware that upgrades are set to commence at Carters Mill Campground

Carters Mill Campground, in Mansfield State Forest, near Sawmill Settlement, will be upgraded

to encourage more people to explore and enjoy the great outdoors.

The $80,000 project will create an additional five campsites and better accommodate caravans and vehicles including camper trailers.

Forest Fire Management Victoria (FFMVic), Goulburn District Manager, Scott Edwards said: “The upgrades include levelling and landscaping and will increase the number of campsites to accommodate an additional 25 campers to the area.

“Once competed, we hope the upgrades will encourage more visitors to the area by providing additional campsites which are easy to access, Mr Edwards said.

Carters Mill Campground is near the Delatite River and close to Plain Creek Walking Trail, Epic Mountain Bike Trail, Mt Buller and Mt Stirling.

“Works will commence this week and will take FFMVic crews and contractors approximately one month to complete.”

The site will be closed from tomorrow (Tuesday 25 May) and will reopen to campers in early November when forest roads and tracks reopen. Campers will still be able to access nearby sites at Buttercup Campground.

Visitors will be able to access toilets at the Carters Mill picnic area from 30 June.

The project is part of Victoria’s Great Outdoors which is boosting regional tourism and making it easier for Victorians to enjoy nature by investing $105.6 million in better walking trails, four-wheel drive tracks, campgrounds and visitor facilities.
