Great Otway National Park – Maits Rest

Parks Victoria would like to inform you that due to fires in NSW affecting our timber supply, Maits Rests anticipated re-opening will be in May 2020.

In the meantime, an alternate location for a rainforest experience is Melba Gully, 30 minutes further along the Great Ocean Road (see attached map). With a refurbished BBQ & picnic shelter, ample parking for cars and buses, as well as toilet facilities, Melba Gully continues to impress visitors with its rainforest walk and opportunity to see the Otway Black Snail, endemic to the region and one of five carnivorous snails in Australia and the famed glow worms making it a must for any visitor to the region.

The closure of Maits Rest allows for a $2.2 million investment to refurbish the popular loop walk, part of a package to improve visitor facilities in the Great Otway National Park.
The refurbishment will see a new raised and wider boardwalk that is perfect for groups and gathering spaces for shared experiences, seating and works to the carpark.
