Briagolong Blue Pool site to be upgraded

Another popular Gippsland campground is being improved to provide a better experience for campers and day visitors and to help protect the site for the future.

Gippsland’s Deputy Chief Fire Officer, Bethany Roberts said: “The Blue Pool north of Briagolong has been attracting increasing numbers of people over the past few years and is in need of some work to upgrade the site and improve it for all to enjoy.

“These works will include landscaping, re-established grass areas, designated camping sites, new toilet blocks, better car parking, more picnic facilities and fire pits, new fencing and better drainage to help protect the environment and prevent erosion,” Dr Roberts said.

“It’s going to look great and will provide better, safer and easier camping and a terrific place to stay or visit for the day.

“The works will take a few months to complete, so all campsites will be closed from December 3 through to July 2020.

“You’ll still be able to enjoy the Blue Pool itself and local walking tracks for day visits, but you won’t be able to camp overnight. Parking will be limited while the works are underway.

“Forest Fire Management Victoria understands that closing the site for this period of time may be frustrating for those who enjoy camping here, but as many regulars will know, the upgrades are well overdue,” Dr Roberts said.

If you still want to visit the local area, there are many other nearby options for camping and day visitors, including the Quarry Reserve (suitable for RVs and caravans), Froam, McKinnon’s Point, Johnston’s Flat, Lloyd’s Knob and Lees Creek (unsuitable for RVs and caravans).

Note the last turnaround point for RVs and caravans is at the Quarry Reserve.

Other camping locations include Avon-Mt Hedrick Scenic Reserve and State forest areas west of Valencia Creek.
