Learn to safely handle your chainsaw while performing basic cross-cutting techniques
FWPCOT2237 Maintain chainsaws
Provides training in the safe use of engine or electrically operated hand-held chainsaws. It includes sharpening chains and completing routine and frequently required service requirements as well as periodic servicing.
This course is designed for people who want to gain information and skills on the safe use and handling of chainsaws. This course is a pre requisite for some employment opportunities with Parks Victoria and the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning.
Duration: Two days and one evening (20 hours)
Theory – Friday 24th May– at 7.30 pm
There is some pre-reading required for this course
Practical – Saturday 25th May and Sunday 26th May
Course practical and assessment will be at Snake Gully near Ballarat.
Cost - $880 inc GST

Resources – you need to bring: Australian Standard Certified safety helmet, which includes hearing protection and visor. Sturdy leather safety gloves, steel cap boots, high visibility vest, chaps and/or chain saw trousers.
Bring own chainsaw in good working condition. (a chainsaw can be provided if requested prior to the course). Tools to suit your chainsaw (ie: file kit and wedges). 5 litres unleaded fresh fuel. BYO lunch. Clothing suitable for the weather conditions of the day.
Existing skills and knowledge may be recognised towards your qualification. This is done via a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process. Students are required to undertake a language, literacy and numeracy self assessment prior to enrolling. Information on RPL and the LLN self assessment can be obtained by contacting the office on 9874-7222.
