Due to the substantial impact of the huge number of fires that are active in Victoria's High Country at present Four Wheel Drive Victoria is recommending that any planned trips for the coming long weekend should be reviewed or cancelled. Many of the usual popular areas that we all love to visit are effected and many are closed to public access.
It is strongly recommended that you cancel any plans to run private and Club trips in those areas, In fact if you do venture into those areas you will more than likely be stopped by authorities from entering there. Future activities in those areas in the coming months will need to be re-thought and many areas will be closed for an extended time until deemed safe by authorities.
Some of the areas that we know are affected include Alpine National Park, Wonnangatta Valley; Wellington River, Tali Karng; Horseyard Flat, Pinnacles, Mt Howitt, Mt Buller Sheepyard Flat, Howqua Hills, Kelly Lane & Thomastown, Crooked River, Talbotville Dargo, Licola, Eaglevale, Mayford, Dargo High Plains, Walhalla, Deep Creek, Aberfeldy, Yarra Ranges, Rubicon, Lake Mountain, Avon Wilderness, East Gippsland, etc.
The main feeder roads and tracks that feed into the Alpine National Park and Gippsland areas will be closed include: Tamboritha Road; Howitt Road; Marathon Road; Moroka Road; King Billy track (access from Mansfield); Riley Track (access from Myrtleford); Wonnangatta Track; McMillans Road; Dargo High Plains Road. For more information on road closures, you can download a full list of road and track closures from Parks Victoria website – or Vicroads -links below
