Coopers Creek campground opens after major upgrade
Refurbishment works at the popular Coopers Creek Camping and Picnic Area south of Walhalla are now complete, with the site reopening to the public on Friday 21 December ready for the summer school holidays.
Latrobe District Forest and Fire Officer, Emily Ferguson who led the project said: “Local Forest Fire Management Victoria (FFMVic) staff have been working hard since April to roll out a suite of upgrades as part of a statewide forest recreation upgrade program.”
“The picnic area has been landscaped to include expansive grassed areas and additional picnic tables across two levels – the perfect place to roll out a picnic blanket and take in the spectacular river views,” Ms Ferguson said.
“Campground Two has been reconfigured to provide better access for camper trailers, while still providing both large and smaller sites for tent-based camping. There are also more remote ‘walk-in’ style campsites for those who like to camp between the trees.
“Two brand new double toilet blocks have been installed as well as designated fire pits across the whole site.
“The Coopers Creek transformation has been made possible thanks to local FFMVic staff in Erica who designed and delivered the upgrade works.
“Staff have worked long days levelling the site, resurfacing the roads and installing fire pits, picnic tables, bollards, fencing and signage across the site over the past eight months,” Ms Ferguson said.
“We hope everyone enjoys the improvements to this site and others across the region.”
