b' Clubs Spotlight Oscars100Hut 2 Hutand TheArchie4WD Clubs up and runningOver the second weekend in February Ultra Runners from allover Australia come to Mt Buller and The Victorian AlpineNational Park to take part in the Hut 2 Hut 100km course or the55km The Archie course in support of autism charityOscars100.The Oscars100 Hut 2 Hut was created in 2017 and has quicklybecome known as Australias hardest 100km trail race. TheHut 2 Hut course takes in 8 of Victorias iconic Alpine huts, 10ascents with a total elevation gain of over 5800m. Competitorscover the distance over 1, 2 or 3 days with the object to pushthem beyond their comfort zones, to make them want to quitbut have no choice to go on. At this point we hope they get asmall insight into what it may be like to live with autism, toconfront obstacles every day and have no choice but to keepmoving. This year we introduced a new 55km event for those whoarent yet ready to take on the 100km event. With 14 rivercrossing and 17km run across the hot valley floor it introducesa new challenge that pushes competitors to breaking point. These challenges serve the purpose of being Oscars100smajor fundraiser. Since the inception of these eventsOscars100 has been able to raise over $250,000 which hasbeen used to support early intervention program delivered intothe autism community by Irabina Autism Services andMansfield Autism Statewide Services. These events wouldnt be possible without the brilliantvolunteer network that supports Oscars100. Playing a key rolein this network are the 4WD clubs that come every year andlook after our competitors as if they where family. Yarra Valley4WD Club, Port Phillip 4WD Club and Peninsular 4WD Clubgive their time, their care and their resources year after yearand our competitors love them for it. Without a doubt the high-light of all runners is either laying over at, or running through,a 4WD vollie checkpoint where they are treated to cheers, frozen zooper doopers, home-made soup and wood firedpizza. Without their support our event would be just anotherrunning event. Oscars100, the trail running and hikingcommunity and everyone involved cant thank the 4WD teamenough and we look forward to their support for many years to Code:come.
