Mt Skene 2025

Well, it’s time to tell the tale of the 2025 snow trip. It started with Steely being the first group member to hit Jamieson caravan park at around 2pm followed by myself a short time later after a couple of beers at the brewery and confirming yet another number change to Saturday nights dinner booking then it was Steve and Yoka. Everyone got
busy setting up camp and organising dinner and I managed to squeeze in a couple of beers at the Jamo pub. Some chose to go to the pub for dinner and some of us cooked back at camp.

Some time later Caz and David turned up and set their camper trailer up. We sat around the fire and talked and had a few drinks before heading to bed. Thankfully Friday night, my air bed went flat. Saturday morning started early, and we meet up at the general store and had breakfast and coffee while waiting for the rest of the group to turn up. Ben and his crew were there first and when Harshil turned up a little before 9 we had a brief meeting and formed our convoy and started on our trip up to the top of Mt Skene. We got to the lookout and dropped tyre pressures.

We were very lucky that our day had incredibly good weather After seeing the Jeep club go up we decided to head off as well. It didn’t take a great deal of time, and we started to see signs of snow and then we were in it. There was a lot of traffic up on Skene this trip and a number of times we needed to move over and let other groups past . At this point we had a couple of recovery’s actually 3 all of which were the same vehicle 🤭. After that we made our way to the summit and stopped for a while. Once the different convoys had thinned out a little, we started down the Licola side of the mountain and the snow was much deeper on the south side as normal. We did sadly see a few vehicles over the day that weren’t set up correctly for the job at hand. We drove down to larazini spur track turn off and stopped for lunch and a chat. Once we were finished, we went back across the mountain in record time with no recoveries or road blocks and back down to snake Edward’s divide track. At that point we found that some of the group were on channel 18 and some on 21 if only the trip leader had done his job correctly oops.

Once fixing that we headed off down snake Edward’s until we got to the Goulburn river crossing. All but 2 made the crossing and due to concerns about the flow they turned back. The crossing was flowing strong and fast and a couple of vehicles got water inside. It was a little concerning part way across when my patrol was being pushed sideways. After the he crossing was finished we aired back up and headed back to the caravan park to clean up and get ready for dinner. The brewery bus picked up the first group just after 5 then came back for the rest of us. Dinner was great and I think everyone enjoyed their time at Jamieson brewery.  Once back at the caravan park the fires were stoked up (add photo)talk of the trip and future trips went on for hours before it was time for bed. After packing in the morning I left at 10 and headed for Woods point then Reefton and home and the others all took the own route home. Thanks to all for taking part in my first trip.
