To all Trip Leaders running trips to Mt Skene and alpine areas this weekend.

Please be aware that the weather forecast is for heavy snow falls and possible blizzard conditions in alpine areas this weekend. This could result in extreme conditions on Mount Skene and other mountain areas.

This weekend there will be many clubs in the area with Saturday permits at capacity. In the interests of safety for all we recommend that all convoys try and communicate with each other and work together as a team to assist in recoveries etc. as needed. This should be done in a friendly and courteous manner.

We have also had reports of vehicles driving and parking off the tracks and in particular the sensitive reserve areas near the summit of Mount Skene. Please ensure your participants stay on the track and do not drive onto these sensitive areas. There is plenty of space to park on the side of the road along the way. It is illegal to drive off the track and any vehicles caught will be fined by compliance officers who are expected to be about this weekend. Also if you see any other vehicles that are obviously not in a club and unlikely to have permits we would appreciate photo evidence showing reg numbers or dash cam footage. Authorities will prosecute on this evidence.

It is in all of our interests to ensure the permit scheme is maintained by ensuring everyone does the right thing.

Make sure you all stay safe and have fun out there.
